Today I tell a tale of great adventure, and a tale that is way past due. -better late than never right?
The story starts last friday afternoon when my best friend Don-kay got an invite to Porcupine Dam from one of our long time friends Parker. Naturally she accepted and as soon as I got off work we were off to meet them. The drive was a good one, full of beautiful scenery (that I swear to you jumped off of a hidden valley bottle) and lots of scream-singing. Twenty minutes and one stop to pet cows later, we finally made it. We saw our friend's cars, but no friends were there waiting fo us. With no cell service, and no friends in sight, we weren't sure what to do other than to start screaming their names. It wasn't long before we spotted them cliff jumping.. on the complete opposite side of the lake. We continued screaming, hoping they would hear us and come pick us up, but it was to no avail. It was time to form a plan b. At one point it was suggested we swim across the lake, but that idea was shot down as soon as we realized we could barely feel our legs in the numbingly cold water. Don-kay suggested we float on our backs-a logical suggestion- but I was pretty sure I wouldn't make it that long and that I would probably drown half way there. Finally, we decided to walk to a bank that was significantly closer to the cliff and then to float over. We waded through the tree infested waters, and Don-Kay absent mindedly said we needed something to float on. It was at that moment that I spotted it. Washed up on the bank, engulfed in mud, was an unusually perfect log just waiting to be saved. We pulled out log and pushed it into the lake. Flotation device = found. The log was however, very large and while it did provide us with something to hold onto, it was difficult to push against the ever growing waves. Being the crafty girls that we are we decided straddling the log would be a winning strategy. We did just that, and it should be no surprise that it worked wonderfully. We made it all but 50 feet to the cliff when our friends finally recognized us and sent reenforcements ( a canoe) to save us.
We conquered Mother Nature that day, and all of the twists she sent our way. Not only did we show her what's up, but we did it in style. Cliff jumping was a blast and I loved every second of it, but truth be told our 20 minute trek on the log was by far the best part of my day. We laughed the whole way across-and you will too if you but picure the event. The fun two girls can have with one stranded log is truly amazing. We decided we need our own reality show, the things we do never fail to surprise me.
